Overview:
The controlled assessment is worth 60% of the overall GCSE grade.
You have 45 hours to complete the coursework, which consists of 20 A3 pages, plus a practical outcome (Quality product).
Timetable: (click picture to left to see your timetable!)
40 hrs in TOTAL (~28 weeks)
18 weeks should be spent on Portfolio (written work)
10 weeks should be spent on the Product (practical work)
The Design Task
The Rules
You can only submit work which is yours! You can ask other people for opinions as part of your research, but you cannot submit other people's design work. You also need to show the source (where you found it) of any research work you include.
If you work well, you should be able to produce design work and a product that you can be proud of. The work will show a very wide range of skills that could be used t impress a potential employer or a college interviewer, even where the job or course you are applying for is not related to design technology.
How is your work assessed?
The mark scheme is made up of the following sections:
*Investigating the Design (8 marks ~ 10 pages)
*Development of Design proposals, including modelling (32 marks ~ 20 pages)
*Making (32 marks)
*Testing & Evaluation (12 marks ~ 10 pages)
*Communication (6marks)

- Your teacher will give you a design task or list of possible tasks.
- You will need to choose a task that interests you, as you will be working on this project for several months!
- You will need to use all the skills you have learnt whilst studying design and technology throughout your school life.
- You need to show creativity in your designing, whether it be improving on an existing product or an invention of something completely new!
- Your designs need to show consideration of Environmental, social and moral issues.
